May 2003 (Revised October 2003)
Please note that some of the information is not necessarily accurate, as I do not have written or actual proof of dates. I have tried to recall to the best of my ability what I remember of family conversations while I was growing up. I have tried to Reconstruct the ages of my grandparents and family who were all born in Gurun.

Any of the descendants of those listed herein should make any corrections or additions to the information and send to me hagophelga@compuserve.com and also if you wish send to all the Guruntsis guruntsis@yahoo.com

Our grandfather was Hagop, who was also known as "Dadour Agon" I believe born about 1850. He married Aghpuiratz Arevian about 1876. She was born about 1855. They had five sons, Sarkis b/a (born about) 1876, Alexander, ("Iskender") b/a 1878, my father Dickran b/a 1880, Haroutune b/a 1892 and Mardig born March 4th 1895. I believe there also was a sister. I remember hearing that the family lived in the Shoughul part of Gurun and then I also remember something about Djaghdsor And also some Dadourian family living in the Gharadapeh area.

Sarkis married about 1900. I do not remember his wife's' first or last name. They had two sons and a daughter. The daughter was Zevart who survived the Genocide and lived with us in Boston for a while. She married Sarkis Vahouny And they had a daughter and a son, George Vahouny who is a Professor in Washington D.C. I believe the daughter is in California.

Alexander (Iskender) married a Hekimian girl in about 1904. Their first son Dadour was born 1906. Dadour survived the Genocide and arrived in USA through Ellis Island in October of 1920. They also had a daughter and a younger son. Dadour married Elise Salibian in Beirut I believe in 1933. They had four sons, Alexander, Haig, Thomas and Peter.

Dickran married Gadarine Chilingirian in 1906. She was born in 1890. Their First son was Yerchanig born in 1907, second son was Sarkis born 1909, third son Karekin born 1910, fourth son I think his name was Hovhaness (?) born 1911, Then a daughter born about 1914. Gadarine survived the Genocide and came to USA Arriving at Ellis Island, April 20, 1920. Two sons were born in USA, Hagop Karekin in December 1920 and Hovhanes Dickran in March 1923. Hovhanes unfortunately passed away in August 1992.

Haroutune (Harry) married Khngaper Magarian in Istanbul I think in 1921. Harry Arrived in USA via Ellis Island I think in 1912. Khngaper came with Harry to USA arriving at Ellis Island January 5, 1921.

They had 6 children all born in USA. Sarkis who died of diphtheria at one year old, Madeleine Aghpuratz born 1922, Anne (Anahid) 1924, Vahe Sarkis born 1926, died in 1946 in Swiss Hospital undergoing appendectomy operation while serving in USA armed forces during World War II, Ara Barkev born 1929, died at age 4 months of whooping cough, daughter Sona born in 1936.

Mardiros (Martin) arrived USA December 18,1911, at age (19?) married Emily (Emilia) Clamer in Boston in 1917. They went to San Francisco where son Harry was born February 9th 1918 and died in Ft Worth on November 27th 1985. Daughter Nazaley was also born in San Francisco October 13th 1919 and died in Hartford CT April 1st 2002. Ralph was born in Boston MA April 4th 1921 and died in New York City on December 6th 1975. Walter was born in Boston MA December 12th 1922. He is presently living in Ft Worth TX.

My father thought it would be beneficial if his brother Harry joined the US Navy so that he would automatically become a USA citizen. Then after the war Harry was sent to Constantinople every year to try and locate members of the Family and also other Guruntsis.

Uncle Harry found Dadour 1919, but then Dadour did not want to leave as he wanted to go back to Gurun with his grandmother, Almas Apla. So ran away from Uncle Harry. Then on one of the next trips Uncle Harry again found Dadour and this time he practically tied him up and forced him to embark with him to the USA. Almas Apla also came with him.

Our grandfather, Hagop (Dadour Agon) decided that he would move the entire Family to the New World, America (USA) after the massacre of 1896, which was instituted by a decree of Sultan Hamid. Now I am guessing at dates, as I do not remember exactly what I had heard from my parents or from Dadour and my uncles.

I believe that Haroutune (Harry) and Mardiros (Martin) were the first two sons sent to the USA sometime in 1911 and 1912. They were the two youngest and unmarried. Dickran, my father was taken into the Turkish Army.

Dickran escaped from the Turkish Army and I do not remember at which seaport he swam out to a Greek ship and made his way to Greece and ultimately reached the USA in 1913. Harry and Martin were then living in Boston and so all three lived together in Boston.

I know that our grandfather, Hagop (Dadour Agon) had at least 2 brothers and a sister. One brother was Samuel and he had a son, Shahe and a daughter Armenouhi. I do not know about other children he may have had. Armenouhi came to USA via Ellis Island; my father paid her passage, on September 1st 1921. Shahe was in Beirut then in Marseilles France and ultimately was expelled to Soviet Armenia in 1945. There he became the Managing Director of "Radio Erevan" which was well known internationally for its quips and sayings. Armenouhi married Barkev Odabashian in Boston.

I know that some of their descendants are in USA and elsewhere. We are related by marriages and blood lines to HEKIMIANS, CHILINGIRIANS, AREVIANS, AFARIANS, PIRANIANS, KOTCHUNIANS, MAGARIANS, BAHADURIANS, ODABASHIANS, DIDIZIANS AND MANY MANY OTHER GURUNTSI FAMILIES, however I cannot remember all the names and details. PERHAPS with the assistance of everyone we can have a more complete picture than I have been able to present.

     This is all I can recall at this time. I would be grateful for all of the descendants of our Dadourian family of Gurin to please review the above information and send me your additions and corrections;

    hagophelga@compuserve.com
and also post on the e-mail site of the Guruntsis
    guruntsis@yahoo.com

Please also if anyone in the families mentioned above can contribute any information, I would be very appreciative.

     Thank you, Jack (Hagop) Dadourian
